Salt print is a technique in graphical art done on paper covered by a layer of sodium chloride (kitchen salt/NaCl). The paper is then coated with silver nitrate (AgNO3). The image can be obtained from a film negative of drawn straight on the negative, covered with glass, and exposed to direct sunlight until a chemical reaction occurs. Finally, the printed result is the coated with sodium tiosulfate (Na2S2O3.5H2O). The image can be sharpened by coating the print with gold chloride (AuCl). The introduction to this technique was guided by Devy Ferdianto, a lecturer and graphic artist who manages Galeri RedPoint in Bandung.
