Aji has had a long history of initiating and actively taking part in various art projects characterized as being spontaneous, collaborative and exploratory, be it in Jogja, Jakarta, even in his home that also serves as an art space in Ubud, Bali.
Indeed, Aji always insists on working from the heart in all his works, because to him art provides a space for him to be honest. In that way, art also provides him with means to communicate with others through in various ways. It also gives him freedom to choose forms and media, often inspired by simple things, as part of the communication process both with persons around him or with himself.
‘Pamerannya Aji’ is a compilation a drawings and sketches from Aji’s scrapbook made over the years, along with a series of new works using uncommon or even ‘petty’ media like posi-it notes and wooden cutting boards. A number of other works were produced from the response of his friends and IVAA visitors who were asked to color his drawings. The entire interaction process was conducted during the last month of exhibition preparation.
