Exhibition of Fiber Art “Tali Ikat: fiber connections”

fber-9This exhibition tried to see the various signs appearing in art practice in regard to the use of fiber material. Types of fibers used are not only limited to materials commonly used in textiile and weaving, but also included materials like paper, plastics, wires, branches, grass as well as other materials with their own unique appeaarance and treatment. In some of the work the technical skill aspect was very prominent, so the impression of a craft was dominant. Despite that, with some of the conceptual impressionsseen in other works, this exhibition was not attempting to draw a line between craft and pure art. The intention was to show the variety of positions, views, and treatments by artists toward fibers as their medium of choice. Curated by Aisyah Hilal, Anusapati, Mella Jaarsma, and Satya Brahmantya, 20 artists were invited from Indonesia and other countries.
