Economy Class of Visual Art

cover-surat-32One of the research programs that has run since June 2008 that was given the name ‘Economy Class’ is about mapping the social-economic infrastructure of the local art world in relation to the fluctuating global economy and socio-cultural phenomena’s in Indonesia and Asia. This research is also a kind of response to the art boom phenomena and the economic crisis that has occurred recently.

The aim of this research is not to just illustrate the arts market situation superficially like what has often been exposed in the media of late but rather to obtain an objective and deeper picture of the relationships between the arts market, aesthetic developments, the macro-economic situation and social changes that are presently occurring so that this can become a clear gauge for everyone involved in contemporary art.

This research project is still being compiled in the form of an internal report (not for publication and it can only be accessed by IVAA Library members and interested parties on request). Following, we plan to develop it into a book.
