Asialink Residency: Danius Kesminas

img_1320In 2006, Danius Kesminas of Australia held his residency at IVAA. Assisted by Samuel Bagas Wirasseto (Gentonk), he worked with a group of Yogyakarta young artists. Together they formed PUNKASILA, a group that makes music and performances inspired by social and political issues. PUNKASILA involved other artists because they used military iconography such as uniforms, with batik patterns, to guitars that resembled rifles. PUNKASILA performed in Yogyakarta, Bandung and Semarang. They have also released an album titled “Acrnym Wars”. After Danius Kesminas completed his residency, PUNKASILA was invited to perform in Australia nad held other performances in Yogyakarta. PUNKASILA are: Danius Kesminas, “Hahan” Uji Handoko Eko Saputro, Rudy “Atjeh” Dharmawan, “Iyok” Prayoga Satrio Utomo, Janu Satmoko, Prihatmoko “Moki” Catur, Gde Krisna Widiatama, and Wimo Ambala Bayang.
