YSC held an exhibition entitled “AWAS! Recent Art from Indonesia” to coincide with a very important political moment after the fall of Suharto regime in 1998. To the Indonesian art public, this exhibition served as a sort of recap of Indonesian contemporary art trends of 1900s that was strongly characterized by social commentary. From this exhibition, the public was able to see how artists responded to the chaos of our soci0-political order prior to the bankruptcy of the New Order regime.
