Alternative spaces in Java big cities were a phenomenon. Bandung only had listed several spaces for artwork creation laboratory with their efforts of releasing themselves from trends of running an exhibition space. We may often found this in spaces run by a group of artists (Artists’ Initiative Spaces). Eventually, in between the dynamics of artists’ initiative spaces ups and downs, many of the (young) artists form groups then arrange a space for their exploration site. On of them is ButonKultur. What may Buton possibly projected for their early works, including the dynamics of Bandung visual art nowadays?

Pancaroba: Visual Media and Campaign
26 Desember 2006
Place: IVAA
Speaker: Partai Bunderan UGM, POOP! Together we fund, Terra Bajraghossa

Campaigning through visual medium is a common thing in our daily lives, especially for campaigns that involve mass movements and of a political sense. For instance, we would easily found pamphlets, posters and billboards that suggest us to elect a candidate from a certain politic party. This is also how Bunderan Party of UGM did their campaign for the Students’ Senate President. On the campaign period, the area of UGM was covered with various kinds of visual medium that suggest students to elect each party’s candidate.

POOP! also did similar movements, where they campaign for environmental issues through T-Shirt sales with jargons such as ‘Save Your Garden’, runs a blog discussing environmental issues and saved some of the sales income for another forms of campaign.

Terra, a young designer and lecturer in Faculty of Fine Art and Design, ISI Yogyakarta responded to both groups by showing the strength of common campaigning methods and several innovations for campaigning an issue.
